Method
How the Remote Jobs Index is calculated
Where the numbers come from
Every figure comes from the remote jobs that are open on Apply Remote right now. We count each job once, even if it was found through more than one source, and we leave out jobs that have been closed. The page updates about every hour as jobs open and close, so the numbers move over time.
How to read each section
- Companies with the most open jobs ranks employers by their number of open remote roles.
- Jobs and median pay by field groups roles by field using the job title. Median pay uses only yearly salaries in US dollars, and only for fields where at least eight jobs list a salary, so a single outlier cannot move the figure.
- Pay transparency shows the share of a company’s open jobs that state a salary. Only companies with at least eight open jobs are ranked.
- Countries counts jobs that name a country. Many remote jobs are open worldwide and name none, so these numbers are lower than the total.
Limits to keep in mind
The Index covers jobs listed on Apply Remote, which is a slice of the market. Pay figures are the salaries employers list, and real pay can differ. Many employers still do not publish salaries, which is why the pay-transparency ranking exists. If you quote the data, please link to this page.
